Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT) is an empirically validated treatment which borrows some aspects of traditional DBT while incorporating coping skills more tailored to individuals with overcontrolled coping. These clients might be dealing with treatment-resistant depression, generalized anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anorexia, or any other disorder where rigidity of thinking, feelings of shame, and lack of connection with others may come into play.

People who are appropriate for RO might internalize their emotions, have tendencies towards perfectionism in some (not necessarily all) aspects of their lives, have difficulty being vulnerable with others, or frequently mask their emotions (“I'm fine” when you're really not fine). Some people appropriate for RO are very agreeable and tend to be people-pleasers, always taking on more and more so as to not be a burden to others. Some people appropriate for RO can be very assertive or even dismissive with others, especially when they believe they are right in a situation.
